MILWAUKEE – In the team’s first meet of the new year, both the men and women went 4-0 to sweep duals against Loyola-Chicago, UIC, Chicago State and host UW-Milwaukee at the John Tierney Classic on Saturday. Gemma Tedeschi (pole vault) and Cassy Goodrich (300 meters) highlighted the day’s performances, each setting school records.“We had some very good performances by both squads today and a number of good things happened,” Marquette head coach Bert Rogers said. “I really thought we competed hard. First meet back after the new year can be a little rusty, but we still had some really good performances. We broke a couple school records, a couple facility records and set a number of top-10 marks. I’m proud of everyone and we’re looking forward to next weekend at Minnesota.”Tedeschi vaulted to a school and Klotsche Center facility record of 3.92 meters (12 feet, 10.25 inches) en route to the victory. It ranks as the top mark in the BIG EAST this season by more than a foot.

Meanwhile, Goodrich bested her meet record from 2015 to register a new personal best in the 300-meter dash with a time of 39.48 seconds.Also setting a facility record and claiming the new top spot in the BIG EAST this season was Maya Marion in the shot put, who launched a winning throw of 14.58 meters (47 feet, 10 inches) and set a personal-best and No. 3 mark all-time at Marquette in the process.In the long jump, Monique Felix and Terica Harris placed swept the top-two places in the long jump with identical leaps of 5.74 meters (18 feet, 10 inches), tying the No. 5 mark all-time. Harris also set a personal best in the triple jump, winning the event with the second-longest distance all-time at Marquette of 12.12 meters (39 feet, 9.25 inches).MU continued its dominance in the women’s field events with Monica Voudrie winning the weight throw with a toss of 16.10 meters (52 feet, 10 inches). Breanne Marchan finished runner-up in the high jump with a season best mark of 1.62 meters (5 feet, 3.75 inches).

On the men’s side, William Ford continued MU’s winning ways with a top mark in the pole vault of 4.51 meters (14 feet, 9.5 inches). Dwayne Dash Jr. (7.18 meters/23 feet, 6.75 inches) placed runner-up in the long jump, while Cory Cegelski (7.09 meters/23 feet, 3.25 inches) set a personal best and took third place.Joel McBride was the top placing collegiate in the men’s weight throw with a toss of 16.55 meters (54 feet, 3.75 inches). Meanwhile, Daniel Armstrong took third place in the high jump with a strong mark of 2.05 meters (6 feet, 8.75 inches).On the track, in addition to her record in the 300-meter dash, Goodrich also won the 60-meter dash with a season-best of 7.72 seconds. Harris took third with a new personal best and No. 9 mark all-time at MU with a time of 7.79 seconds.Clare McDonald won the mile with a time of 5:02.66, while Brittney Feivor (5:05.17) and Mary Hanson (5:06.23) finished right behind in second and third place, respectively. Alison Parker won the 600-meter run with a personal best time of 1:36.77 and Meghan Carroll finished right behind with a time of 1:37.28.Jennifer Parker followed up with a win in the 3000 meters, turning in a time of 10:06.55 that was just off her personal best mark.

The centerback has solidified an MU backline that has a current 289-minute scoreless streak during the run of play. The Milwaukee native also chipped in his first career point with an assist of Connor Alba’s goal on Saturday. • The Golden Eagles are looking to make it a three-match unbeaten streak against Milwaukee following a 2-0 home win in 2014 followed by last season’s 1-1 draw at Englemann Stadium. Prpa has 15 points on five goals and five assists in his first five matches with the Blue & Gold, but saw his three-match points and goals streak come to an end at Saint Louis. • Prpa was the first MU player in program history to register back-to-back six-point efforts, doing so in wins over NIU (Aug. 29) and UIC (Sept. 2). He was awarded National Player of the Week by the NSCAA and Top Drawer Soccer, while also being included in three National Team of the Week listings.
