The assembly was challenging if one is not small enough to get inside the container when putting the hinges on. It is definitely a two person job to put together. As other people said, this cargo box feels flimsy, but I have not encountered other cargo boxes so I have nothing to compare this one to as a frame of reference. I'm worried enough about its flimsy feel that I bought extra ratchet tie downs, just for some added protection to keep the box closed and to keep it attached to my roof rack.

I saw many reviews that say the assembly was very difficult, but I found it to be moderate -- not difficult but not easy. I assembled it while watching TV so it is not so hard that it requires your entire focus. It is true that you have to climb inside and close it up with you inside for one part of the asssembly (so you need two people for that part). It is big and not easy to transport if you do ship to store. When I picked it up from Walmart, I had to take it out of the cardboard box that it was shipped in and remove the 3rd row, and remove the headrests from my 2nd row, in my standard size Cadillac Escalade before I could get it inside my SUV. My husband and I purchased this to help us carry our luggage when traveling with our five children. After using it only about half-a-dozen times in about a year, one of the latches broke and our air mattress flew out onto a six lane portion of the PA turnpike. Thankfully, no one was injured. I wish I could tell you that Walmart made good on a faulty product, but instead they offered me a $25 coupon.

After reading all of the reviews, I decided to take a chance on this box. It is for my wife's vehicle, and will only be used four or five times a year. When I got it home and opened the box, I noticed a dent and a scratch on the top. Not a big deal, I popped it out and rubbed some wax on it to remove the scratch. Many of the reviews mentioned much difficulty in assembly. It wasn't the easiest thing I've ever put together but not the hardest. The instructions are poorly written. A few minor additions like tabs to hold the hinges in place would have been smart. Over all it isn't the best designed product I've ever bought, and once assembled, feels very cheap. We'll keep it and use it until it falls apart, and then I'll spend the money and buy a good one. I had high hopes for this box as it is made by Thule, here in America. But it does disappoint.
