Why not hand wash it in the sink (not scrubbing too hard) and then frame the shirt? We still have a shirt from years ago when my oldest went to a professional womans soccer game and had it signed. You can still see the sharpie but it is a bit faded. This t shirt has been worn often. I would maybe wear it a few times and then save it. You can try soaking it overnight in a cup vinegar mixed into a gallon of water. We always do this to fix the colors in new swimsuits. I was thinking....maybe there is something you could coat the signature with to preserve it? I know an old trick is to use clear nail polish on some other mediums but have never used it on cloth. Maybe a craft store might have something just for these kinds of things. I had a t-shirt signed by a favorite musician 3 or 4 years ago. (Black Sharpie on a white shirt).

It was a newer shirt when he signed it, and I've worn it often. Did nothing special, wash it as normal with other clothes. The shirt is about worn out from age. It has faded some, but it is still visible, so it should last the life of the shirt. At least that has been my experience. Thanks for the replies. I'll probably just hand wash at first and go from there. We were not planning on keeping them for forever...just life of the shirt. YOu could go to a place like Michael's and buy fabric markers. Just use them to "trace over" the autographs - it would give the autographs more staying power - but dependent on your view, it might defeat the purpose of the autograph. L've heard about the vinegar trick too... Good luck "saving" them, those kids will want to wear them...alot! There is a way to set a marker on t-shirts. Get hold of a sheet of ink-jet t-shirt transfer paper and cut it out a little larger than the autograph then iron it in place, peeling off the backing sheet when you have done.
