» Submitted by Kiki on January 23, 2009 – 12:42 pm Karl Kani is one of the first clothing brands that joined forces with hip hop culture, featuring celebrities like Tupac, Notorious B.I.G. and other hip hop moguls in ads. The brand will celebrate it’s 20th year anniversary with the Source Magazine later this year, and also in Europe with the official German premiere of the Notorious movie. Karl Kani himself has been called the “Godfather of Urban Fashion”, and it is clear that he is not about to fade off the scene anytime soon. He also launched Kani Ladies in 2001, recently revamping it into a more trend-right sexy urban line. Sean JohnCasual sportswear from Europe had been heavy in the streets for a minute by the time Puff Daddy ventured into clothing, but when Sean John dropped in 1998 hip-hop could finally stop appropriating its style cues from the Continent and cop from the home country.
Sean John was an immediate hit in the streets and with critics, and made velour suits acceptable to rock outside of the home again. It's initial success was so influential that, heading into the early 2000s, Sean John started cleaning up when it came to awards and top media coverage.rich piana hoodiesTyga and Desiigner Share New Video for "Gucci Snakes"TDE's SiR Shares New EP 'Her Too'Katy Perry Releases "Chained to the Rhythm," f/ Bob Marley's Grandson, Skip Marley GOOD Music's 'Cruel Winter' Reportedly Still HappeningNicki Minaj and Nick Jonas Team Up on 'Fifty Shades Darker' Track "Bom Bidi Bom" Juelz Santana Reflects on The Iconic Dipset x Supreme T-Shirt7 Gems From Virgil Abloh's Columbia University LectureNike's Releasing the Acronym x Air Force 1 TodayVirgil Abloh Reportedly Candidate for Givenchy's New ao hoodies doi

He had a great sense of style and could rock different looks from street to preppy to casual. Many of his looks are relevant today, proving he was ahead of his time in Hip Hop and fashion. Not only was ‘Pac a trend-setter, but his dope style was effortless and original. In addition to his fashion innovations, he sold more than 75 million albums worldwide, making him one of the best-selling artists of all time. Let’s take a look back on some of his top 15 standout looks within his brief time on earth before being tragically killed at age 25. Tupac would often rock different shades of camouflage and bodied every look. In 1994, for the movie Above The Rim, he wore a camouflage two-piece with a brown bandana and a gold chain. Tupac wore a Red Wings jersey to the NYC Courthouse in 1994 and a gold cross chain. This image is one of his most prolific sightings. Tupac attended the MTV Video Music Awards in 1996 at Radio Music City Hall alongside Snoop Dogg and rocked a grey suit laced with Versace Jewelry and a huge gold beaded medallion around his neck.
Tupac was one of the first rappers to embrace the velour look, as you can see from this image taken backstage during concert preparation in 1995. He’s seen wearing the “Death Row Chain” with a Versace bracelet and a very stylish velour tee. From ‘Pac’s attire you can tell he was a huge fan of button-ups and was also a huge fan of rocking frames, specifically Cartier frames. ‘Pac is giving off John Lennon vibes here with the round specs, seen leaving a function in 1995. From preppy to Thug Life, ‘Pac kept it clean on all aspects. Tupac did a shoot in a J.P.G dressing gown in April 1994, with ‘Pac giving Hugh Hefner vibes. ‘Pac looked spectacular switching it up from gold to sterling silver with a diamond, iced-out cross chain around his neck. Tupac frequently wore overalls, which became one of his favorite looks for the 90s. From this image at the First Annual Minority Motion Picture Awards in Los Angeles you can see ‘Pac rocking a stripe long-sleeve with baggy denim overalls and a stripe hat.
He also kept it stylish with the beeper hanging in the front overall pocket on the left side. This look gives ‘Pac one of the best denim moments in fashion. Tupac rocked the classic Versace look in 1996 for an official video for “Rappers Ball” with E-40, Too Short & K-Ci. Here’s ‘Pac during a Reising & Taylor photo shoot in 1994, wearing a button-up laced in gold jewels and of course we can’t forget about the standout Cartier frames. ‘Pac is seen here with the Notorious B.I.G wearing one of his most infamous looks: the “Thug Life” beanie, a skull tee and a leather vest, resembling a biker look. Tupac and the bullet proof vest became a huge thing and of course, it became a signature for him in the 90s. The night ‘Pac was shot and killed he allegedly refused to wear his bullet proof vest because it was “too hot.” ‘Pac is seen in this image wearing a bullet proof vest, black bandana and designer Moschino belt. Here’s ‘Pac in a promo ad shoot in 1993 wearing the Air Jordan IX (White/Black-True Red) with an icy all-white track suit and black bandana.
Tupac wore a Karl Kani sweatsuit for an interview on the movie set of Juice for the magazine Word Up (with photography by Dorothy Low) in 1993. ‘Pac was known to wear a slew of Karl Kani in his time, a brand heralded as pioneering urban fashion. Tupac once again frequently wore overalls and with his creativity, he created his own original denim piece with “THUG LIFE” on the stomach (where he had a tattoo in the same exact spot). He’s seen here wearing it with a stripe beanie and hoodie underneath. Here’s Tupac in Milan, Italy for a tour of fashion shows, where he attended Versace’s fashion show and also walked in and performed “California Love” for the people in 1996. He rocked a velvet Versace suit. Tupac in a Fedora hat with vest and a single gold necklace out with Suge Knight and friends in Vegas. ‘Pac in Camo attire, seen leaving an event. Tupac in 1992 in a stylish Timberland jacket, seen in the “Brenda’s Got A Baby” video. Tupac laced out in a tuxedo with Fedora and gold cross chain.
