Last SlideNext SlideAny supposed squabble between Eminem and Drake was buried Tuesday night at a sold-out Joe Louis Arena when the Canadian rapper brought the Detroit superstar on stage for a show of solidarity and celebration. After Drake ran through his verse on “Forever,” the only song on which the two artists have ever appeared, Drake primed the crowd with a promise he had been making all night.

"You work with me, I work with you," he told the crowd.Eminem then shocked the Joe by rising from beneath the stage and charging through his breathless verse on the 2009 track. Fans, already amped up from Drake’s energetic set as it hit the two-hour mark, collectively lost it as seemingly everyone whipped out their phones to capture the moment on their preferred means of social networking.Drake excitedly bounced around the stage as Em cleanly spat his words, at one point mimicking shooting a basketball. He was every bit as hyped as the crowd. As Em wrapped his verse -- all told, it lasted about a minute -- he and Drake exchanged bows. “Make some noise for the greatest rapper to ever get on a microphone, the legendary Eminem!” Drake said, as the crowd went bonkers. From underneath his hoodie and red-brimmed ball cap, Em instructed the crowd to make some noise for Drake as well as Future, who also performed during the show. "It's an honor to share the stage with this man right here," he said, motioning toward Drake.

“Detroit, one more time," he continued, "make Drake feel at home!”“Detroit!” he said as Em exited the stage. “That’s what you call a hometown hero! Make some (expletive) noise for Eminem!” And at the finish of the show, Drake referred to Em as “one of the biggest inspirations, if not the biggest” during his closing remarks to the crowd. The exchange of pleasantries and mutual respect came several weeks after rumors circulated in the hip-hop world that Drake and Eminem were readying a feud. Drake immediately distanced himself from the rumors and took shots at New York hip-hop station Hot 97 – the source of the supposed feud news – on stage in New York earlier this month, but not before news of the alleged but never substantiated beef made international headlines and became fodder for mountains of internet chatter. On stage Tuesday, it was nothing but love between the two artists, and earlier in the evening the pair posed for a picture together backstage in front of a Detroit Red Wings backdrop that was posted on the two stars’ respective Instagram pages.

“SHARED THE STAGE WITH THE GOAT FOR DETROIT TONIGHT. DONE THE HYPE,” the caption on Drake’s page read, while Em’s read, “Views from the Joe.” Detroit photographer Jeremy Deputat snapped the photo of the duo.Drake perhaps tipped his hat to the pending appearance when he appeared on stage for the second portion of his show wearing Eminem’s Carhartt-branded Air Jordan IV sneakers on his feet. The ultra-rare sneakers netted as much as $30,000 a pair in auctions last year. Eminem also wore Jordan IVs, opting for a pair in the White Cement colorway, one of the all-time classic Jordan make-ups.The Eminem cameo marked the rapper’s first appearance on a Detroit concert stage since he popped up at Big Sean’s Joe Louis Arena concert in November 2015. And it was the highlight of an already bombastic set by Drake, who was performing his second sold-out area concert in three weeks, following a July 28 show at the Palace of Auburn Hills.Drake’s current tour finds the rapper at the peak of his powers and at his best as a performer.

He’s backed by a luminous state-of-the-art production, with a symphony of lights dangling from the ceiling and forming patterns around him as he rips through a seemingly endless chorus of hits.Tuesday’s 140-minute show followed the same blueprint as the Palace show and repeated much of the same stage banter, but Drake is a solid salesman and sold each line with the conviction it deserved. Over the years he has become an intensely physical and charismatic performer, and his is a case where one of the world’s most popular performers is also one of its best. The only hiccup was Future’s sluggish mid-show set, which should be moved to a traditional opening set in order to not distract from the headliner’s boisterous momentum.“Forever,” which also features verses by Lil Wayne and Kanye West, was a comeback of sorts for Eminem at the time of its release. It followed Em’s poorly received “Relapse” album, and his tongue-twisting double-time verse was praised as one of his finest moments on the microphone.
