So what next for Louis Walsh? Before his music management job, Louis Walsh used to pull pints in the Blues Inn pub in County Mayo. According to Louis, “I only got a few quid a week, but I was glad to be away from home and grateful for the independence and the ability to earn my own money. It was great fun.”Well since he enjoyed it so much, he could surely go back and regale customers with stories about the first time he left X-Factor in 2007, only to return the following year (bet the customers can’t wait to hear that one!). Earning a few quid at the pub should keep him in JLS hoodies for a little while yet, and when he’s earned a bit more he could always buy the pub and give some work to the failed bands he used to manage (The Carter Twins, Bellefire or Six anyone?), apparently they are dab hands at pulling a pint now.

Since being on the X Factor, Louis has come across as a harmless and amiable chap in most of his TV appearances, but now is the time to change. The public is tiring of Michael McIntyre’s safe and edge-free comedy and needs someone with that edge. There’s clearly a vacancy for a bitchy comedian with a highly acerbic edge. Although the main problem is we can’t remember a single joke of Louis’s on X-Factor that didn’t fall flat. But hey that’s alternative right?!?We know he’s already managed them for four years, but there’s still more promotional potential left with Jedward. The hair angle just hasn’t been marketed enough and their wacky hair styles could promote a decorating paintbrush range, and (some) teenagers must be crying out for a Jedward hairbrush range? Maybe they could even use the twin’s hair for bristles? And while we’re at it, why hasn’t someone marketed the Jedward bog brush?Who can ever forget the looks on the faces of contestants when they found out that they were going to be one of Louis’s acts for the X-Factor series?

While others jetted off for the likes of LA, Dubai and Ibiza, Louis’s performers would board an Aer Lingus flight to Dublin with fixed smiles that really said, ‘Why didn’t Sharon, Nicole or Gary pick us so we could fly off somewhere cool, rather than flying to see this 60-year-old whose voice gets really high-pitched when he’s excited.’On weekend TV, Louis was THE face of Irish airlines.Louis clearly enjoys being a manager, so why not get a super group boyband going. The public sorely misses Westlife, Boyzone, G4 and Shayne Ward, so why not bring them back as one super duper band. As their first single they could cover one of the greatest songs from Louis’s roster of acts ‘Under Pressure (Ice Ice Baby)’. The world cannot wait!8th Grade Ads due Feb. 16! Commemorate this milestone and support the yearbook! Purchase an ad at Jostens.Nothing could have highlighted the phenomenon that JLS have become more than the dramatic scenes at Manchester's Trafford Centre last week when the band were due to switch on the Christmas lights.

They were expecting a few fans to turn up - perhaps a group of loyal regulars who have supported them since they came second to Alexandra Burke in last year's X Factor. Instead, there was a crush of thousands, completely blocking their way. 'We were thinking: "Oh, a couple of people will be there, we'll switch on the Christmas lights, it should be a good laugh," ' says 21-year-old Aston Merrygold, the back-flipping joker in the band. 'But there were so many people trying to get there that we were nearly late for the whole thing. Our security guys had to divert the traffic away so we could get through to the venue and perform. Let us entertain you: The boys finally get to perform after making their way through the throng in Manchester to switch on the Christmas lights'We had to change in the car then go straight onto the red carpet. We never thought it would be anything like that. Then there was the return to the X Factor studios last Sunday - this time to appear as star guests.

Since they competed 11 months ago, they have had a No1 single with Beat Again and toured with soul star Lemar. This week they look like getting to No1 again, with Everybody In Love, and next week sees the release of an impressive album for which they wrote half the songs. Was it strange to be back at X Factor? 'When we got there, we were on our way to the contestants' dressing rooms because we totallyIn fact, they should have gone straight to the luxury trailers reserved for the guest stars. 'Then, when we were backstage and the video started, we thought it was just like the old days. They announced J-L-S and we had massive smiles on our faces. It was like: "Wow, we're home!"' Mass hysteria: Thousands descend on the Trafford Centre for the arrival of JLS - forcing the mall to be locked down for the first time in its history Backstage, they talked to their former mentor, Louis Walsh, about the current crop of finalists, especially the controversial Irish twins John and Edward, who have survived so far in spite of all the criticism they have had.

He said they were in a great position. Everyone was reading about them and talking about them, and viewers can't wait to see what they are doing each week. 'The boys themselves are born entertainers. They kept us laughing all the time.' The group arriving at the MOBO Awards where they picked up the Best Newcomer award At this stage, he believes that anyone could win, although his favourites (along with John and Edward) are Olly Murs and Stacey Solomon. 'You can see by the way the bottom two changes, that it's not predictable,' he says. JLS know what that's like, because last year they were in the bottom two themselves one week. 'We'd had last-minute changes of song, choreography and costume, and so we were pretty nervous. We hoped we had done well, but when it came to the vote we were down there, and had to do a survival song. Luckily, Simon Cowell saved us.' Aston and Marvin are always being linked to new partners. Aston and Stacey were on the cover of Heat magazine because they were said to be dating.

'I wouldn't mind if all the stories were true,' he says. 'I only met Stacey for the first time on Sunday, so I don't know how I could have gone out with her. They know before I do, obviously! 'We were having a laugh about it and she kept saying: "So when are you taking me to Nando's? Heat magazine said you were taking me to Nando's!" She's a really lovely girl, really cute.' JLS's runaway success has made them - in the public's eyes at least - the real winners.Oritse Williams and Aston Merrygold, Marvin Humes and JB performing on stage at the 2009 MOBO awards in Glasgow As Aston says: 'First is worst, second is best.' It doesn't rhyme too well, but you can imagine JLS are full of similar homilies because they know all about adversity and turning it to their advantage. Though outwardly good-time guys, Aston, Jonathan 'JB' Gill, Marvin Humes and their leader Oritsé ( pronounced Orishay) Williams possess the kind of determination you'd expect from an SAS commando unit.

But sometimes fate has other plans. 'At the auditions, when we were lining up to see the judges, everything was going wrong,' recalls Oritsé, 22. 'JB had cut his hand on glass, Aston was desperate for the toilet, Marvin was the most nervous I'd ever seen him, and I was the same. When we went in, I was thinking: "You know, this can go totally wrong . . ." 'We saw Simon sighing, with his head in his hands, and we thought he was going to hate us. But thankfully we had a good start and that set us up.' The group admit that had they been able to choose their mentor, they would not have chosen Louis Walsh - although they were later to develop a close bond with him. Says JB: 'If you'd asked us who we wanted to guide us, we might have said Simon, or Cheryl, as she was a new judge. But luckily for us, as it turned out, we had Louis. 'You've got to remember the success he's had with Westlife, Boyzone and even Girls Aloud in the early stages. He worked really hard for us.

He even got on a double decker bus in a green JLS hoodie to promote us and get as many votes as he could. He got quite emotional.' JLS (from left) JB, Marvin Humes, Oritse Williams and Aston Merrygold, with Chipmunk (third left) after they collected their Best Newcomer award during the 2009 MOBO awards Oritsé says that whenever they see him, he reiterates: '"Boys, you should have won." He says: "I'm so proud of what you're doing now. I always knew you were going to have a career after X Factor." 'He always reminds us never to change. He says: "Like I said from the beginning, stay humble, be nice guys and you'll have a good career. That's the thing we took from Louis.' As their weeks in X Factor wore on, they gradually developed a closer relationship with Cowell. Oritsé recalls: 'In the semi-final week, he called us into his dressing room and said: "You know, you guys have got a shot of winning things." 'We've got nothing but respect and admiration for him. He was very supportive of JLS, and if it wasn't for him we wouldn't be here now.'

JLS agree that, given the choice, they would rather have auditioned in front of an audience - an innovation in this year's series - instead of performing just for the judges. Says JB: 'We can appreciate that if the crowd support you from day one, it gives you much more of a confidence boost.' JB was the last to join the group and was indirectly found through a queue of X Factor auditionees at Arsenal's Emirates stadium, close to the London Metropolitan University where Oritsé was studying. Oritsé turned up to scan the queue to see if he could recruit for his fledgling boy band. He came across a talent scout doing something similar, who recommended he check out JB. 'I was obsessed with getting the band together, by any means necessary,' says Oritsé. 'Myself, Aston and Marvin were already rehearsing weekly. We were nearly there, but we needed that extra element.' JLS go back to where it all began peforming on last weekend's X Factor show When JB agreed to join, no time was wasted.
