Akibento Reviews, Australian Subscription Box Reviews, Canadian Subscription Box Reviews, Geeky Subscription Boxes, Nerd Subscription Box Reviews, Subscription Box Reviews, UK Subscription Box Reviews | This post may contain referral/affiliate links. Akibento is a monthly subscription box for anime & manga enthusiasts. Aki is short for Akihabara, a district in Tokyo famous for their anime and manga goods. Akibento sends “authentic and original figures, collectibles, manga, apparel, accessories and more” with a guaranteed exclusive t-shirt and $60+ in value each month. My Subscription Addiction paid for this box. (Check out the review process post to learn more about how we review boxes.) The Cost: $23.95 + $6 US shipping COUPON: Save $3 off your first box with code ANIME The Products: 6-8 items including an exclusive t-shirt Ships to: US, Canada, and other countries found in the top right corner here. Check out all of our Akibento reviews and the Geek + Nerd Subscription Box Directory!
Keep Track of Your Subscriptions: Add this box to your subscription list or wishlist! This month’s theme is “Unity”! As you can tell by the card, this box brings together Yowamushi Pedal, Free! Iwatobi Swim Club, .hack, Pokemon, Digimon, Yu-Gi-Oh! and Tiger and Bunny. The back of the info card lists out all of the items inside. There’s also a contest to enter and a YouTube star to check out! Akibento Exclusive Millenium Necklace – Value $24.99 Inside this box is an awesome metal necklace from Yu-Gi-Oh! The pendant is a shiny gold version of the Millennium Puzzle. It’s pretty big (each side is about 2 inches wide). Here it is from the top. The chain is silver metal—I wish it was the same finish as the pendant, though. Because it’s so big, it’s not something to comfortably wear day to day. But it’d be a great piece to cosplay with or wear to an event! The chain is pretty long. I just looped it over my head, rather than opening the lobster-claw clasp.
The pendant sits pretty low, sort of in the middle of my sternum. Yowamushi Pedal Phone Charm – Value $5.99 Right as I started getting back into bike riding, I also got into this cute series. I was so excited to see this phone charm in this box! This chibi version of Onoda is adorable! The charm is 2D but coated in shiny plastic. It’s simple but seems pretty sturdy. I’m not sure if my phone will work with the charm. Luckily, this little guy comes with a clasp, so I can use it as a zipper pull! Digimon Digi-Device MacBook Decal – Value $1.99 I was a HUGE Digimon fan growing up. This cool black-and-white decal of a Digi-Device is designed to sit over the glowing apple on your MacBook, so that it makes it look like the little screen is glowing. The sticker is made of sturdy plastic that’s opaque except for the clear screen area. Iwatobi Swim Club Wristband – Value $ 7.99 This stretchy sweatband is embroidered with a logo like the one the team boys from this swimming-centered anime wears on their jackets.
It’s not the highest quality (a few fuzzies were shedding off as I put it on), but it is soft and comfy. This is another fun find for cosplay. Or you could just wear it with everyday outfits, or incorporate it into your workout wardrobe! Tiger and Bunny Kotetsu Plush Toy – Value $12.99? I haven’t checked out this show yet, but the concept sounds cool. It’s set in a futuristic world where crime-fighting vigilantes are sponsored by real companies. This character, Kotetsu, is the “Tiger” in the show, is a veteran hero who has to learn to cooperate with a fresh new face on the scene. I based the value on a similar plush. I like the detail on this plush, from his watch to the little buckle on the back of his old-timey vest. I did think it was weird that this plush is a good bit paler than the character appears in the show. I’ll probably hang onto this plush until I’m able to check out the show. If it isn’t my thing, I hope I can find someone who’ll love this squishy little friend!
Akibento Button – Value $1.00? There’s a little button for the theme of the box, too. I wish the button was more focused on a character rather than the box. I feel like I’m just advertising for the box rather than showing off my fangirl-ness. Exclusive Reina Scully Keychain – Value $7.99 Remember Reina Scully, the YouTuber from the info card? This keychain was made in her honor. It’s pretty darn cute, though I don’t follow her, so it feels a little odd to carry around a keychain about her! I do love how sweet the design is, though. The Pikachu hoodie looks so comfy that I wish it existed in real life, haha! Next up is this Pokeball inspired box. I was excited to check out what’s inside! Pikachu Stressball – Value $3.99? Inside the Pokeball box is a Pokemon… ball! It’s a dense foam ball coated in plastic and finished with a Pikachu face. You can use it as a stressball, squishing it up whenever you’re feeling tense, or I suppose you can use it for whatever fun and games may come your way.
It’s a cute idea, but I don’t know how I’ll end up using this item. I might actually get some use out of the Pokeball box, though! It could be a unique way to package a gift for a fellow Pokemon fan. The value is based on a similar stressball. Akibento Exclusive Unity T-Shirt – Value $20.00 This T-shirt captures the theme of the box, with a few favorite characters. This shirt is made of cotton, so it’s pretty comfy. I like the design, too, though again, it is sort of a random assortment of characters. Verdict: I wasn’t the biggest fan of the items in this Akibento box. I would’ve preferred if more of the items were focused on different shows, rather than the box, its theme, etc. The value of the items altogether is about $87.00, which is way more than the $23.95 price of the box. That said, I’m not sure I got that much value out of the items. I almost wish there were fewer, more special or high-quality items, rather than many more run-of-the-mill pieces.
