’94 Week: What You Don’t Know About Notorious BIG’s Ready To Die If You Don’t Know, Now You Know There’s isn’t a lot of mystery about Notorious BIG’s start up Ready to Die. VIBE sat down with four producers (Easy Mo Bee, Digga, Lord Finesse, Mr Cee) who worked with the Bedford-Stuyvesant native on the 20-year-old classic hoping to unearth some new factoids. From finding out about BIG’s nervousness about becoming a father to songs that remain in the vault, it’s safe to say it was a good dig. All TV & Showbiz ACTOR and quiz-show host Warwick Davis doesn’t usually enjoy reading scripts, but when he was handed his lines for this Christmas’ mysterious Jonathan Creek special, something changed. “I find scripts a bit of a struggle,” admits Warwick, 46. Warwick Davis plays Wilkie who is called in to perform an exorcism

“It’s a bit like: ‘When am I coming on?’ But with [writer] David Renwick’s script, straight away I was into it. And the way he sets things up, I’m thinking: ‘How’s he going to explain this one?’ It’s a delight when it gets to the point of: ‘Ah, that’s how they did it.’” It certainly is a triumphant return for the popular drama after two and a half years away. The one-off episode – which is not actually set at Christmas – sees Warwick play Reverend Wendell Wilkie, a vicar who joins forces with Jonathan Creek (Alan Davies) to solve a mystery at a ‘haunted’ house. It’s a plot full of intrigue – with a surprise villain. “I didn’t work it out,” confesses Warwick. “I’m quite good at suspending my disbelief anyway; I’m not one to second-guess what’s going to happen. “We’re big fans of Columbo in my house and I never like to second-guess that, I just go along with it. The way David ties everything together and always has a rational explanation is really good.”

Jonathan and wife Polly (Sarah Alexander) unearth demonic goings-on at a country house And the magic of joining such a well-known show was not lost on Warwick. “I couldn’t believe how long it’s been on,” he laughs. “I watched an episode from the first series – Alan looks like a teenager! You forget it’s been around for 20 years, which is phenomenal. “When people hear you’re working on Jonathan Creek they say: ‘I love that.’ It’s nice to be working on something that excites people. There’s nothing worse than when you say what you’re doing and they reply: ‘Oh, we never watch that.’ “And it’s lovely to be on TV at Christmas. It’s the time when everyone watches telly. These sorts of shows are given a nice profile, they’re events. We don’t have enough ‘event television’ any more, but this will be. People will make an appointment with their television to watch it.” Jonathan Creek spots something interesting in some old Parish records
