The stuff wasn't cheap, but it was good. Noah was a pioneer in the "rebel prep" aesthetic touted by brands like Rogues Gallery and Band of Outsiders and taken mainstream by Rugby Ralph Lauren, and it was sold in "if you know it, you know it" shops like Nom de Guerre. Though Noah is no longer, its legacy lives on in pieces like Supreme's Loro Piana trench coat and nautical block stripe basics. From the single-sale collector’s item of Wu-Tang Clan’s latest album, Once Upon a Time in Shaolin, to the widespread supply of Wu Wear, we let Faust dissect the economics of the group’s brand.Tell us about the history of Wu Wear and Wu-Tang Clan merch? From a design standpoint, aside from there being a “W” on everything, can you describe Wu Wear’s style? Wu Wear had brick and mortar stores in New York, L.A., Atlanta and Norfolk, VA, but it was also carried at department stores. Did the demand justify this degree of supply? How central is the idea of exclusivity or collectability in streetwear and hip-hop culture?
