The Indigenous peoples of North America have many cultural traditions that have often been misrepresented or suppressed through the colonization process and are significantly different in perspectives about sex, gender, and sexuality than those in Western Europe.  In the 21st century, one tradition that was nearly lost is what is referred to as Two-Spirit (lesbian, gay, bisexual, or transgender Native peoples)… Culture Saves Lives presents an evening with Harlan Pruden.  Two Spirit People: Then and Now | Mending the Sacred Hoop Tuesday May 10th, 5 – 7 pm Woodwards Community Housing, 131 W Hastings Street, 10th Floor Skyroom: a light meal will be served. In partnership with RainCity Housing and the PHS Community Services Society, Culture Saves Lives presents and invites you to our Knowledge Keepers Sharing Series at the Woodwards Community Housing. These circles are open to community members, practitioners, students, and anyone interested in gaining a deeper understanding and appreciation of First Nations cultures and communities.

It has now been a few weeks since Parkside made our transfer to the modular buildings, and students are beginning to adapt to the changes. Administrators are pleased with how smoothly we shifted over. However with changes such as this issues are bound to arise. For example student Ramit Gupta states, “It serves it’s purpose but students have to brace the elements when they are coming and going from their classes, whether it is snow, rain, or even hail”. This is an appropriate issue for multiple students who don’t want themselves or their belongings to get wet when they’re going to class.

Though administrators have said that students are allowed to use umbrellas and/or hoodies.
