Kenzo - The eye of the tigerOne of Kenzo’s most successful collection is the tiger print. Known for their floral prints, Leon and Lim were looking for a new iconography for Kenzo. They drew inspiration from exotic pieces around Paris as well as the 60’s and 70’s where people displayed tiger rugs. In lookin through Kenzo’s archives, the duo noticed little tiger details on wristbands, bags and accessories. That is when the idea stuck, feeling that the tiger represented what Kenzo stood for; In creating this new graphic print, the duo also decided to introduce a sweatshirt into the Kenzo collection, something that has never been done in the brand. And thank heavens they did so because their Kenzo tiger sweatshirts quickly sold out like hotcakes! After the success of the tiger sweatshirt, Kenzo released a signature eye graphic print in 2013. Like the tiger print, the eye also became an adored motif among many with the eye print sweatshirt being another popular item. Kenzo- more than just a fashion brandKenzo is more than just a high fashion brand.
They are also involved in charitable causes namely the Blue Marine Foundation, fighting against overfishing and pollution. In partnering with Blue Marine Foundation, Kenzo released a unisex capsule collection in spring/summer 2014. Going with their popular sweatshirt trend, Kenzo launched sweatshirts and t-shirts with the slogan “No fish no nothing” printed on them with proceeds going for the cause. They also interactively engaged with the public, creating pop up stores allowing customers to interact with a digital aquarium as well as take pictures with the hashtag #NoFishNoNothing. In creating public awareness, Kenzo successfully brought attention to the cause. That is why buying a Kenzo item is more meaningful than many other brands. Kenzo – Rumbling in the Disney JungleEverybody rejoice for Kenzo has joined in the huge Disney family with their great collaboration that is greatly inspired by Baloo the bear and the Man Cub, Mowgli. Inspired by the new Jungle Book film which premiered on April 15, Kenzo designers Carol Lim and Humberto Leon are paying homage to Disney's 1967 animated classic with a new high fashion collection of ready to wear.
The offering is comprised of summery shirtdresses, shorts, and skirts decorated in original sketches of beloved characters like Mowgli, King Louie, Baloo, and more. Even Kenzo's signature tiger sweatshirts and T-shirts have gotten the Jungle Book treatment, with Shere Khan replacing the brand's emblem. "There’s a way that everything comes together that is slightly familiar, but also really fresh and exciting," Lim and Leon said in a joint statement. As far as the silhouettes go, they explained that they specifically opted for pieces they felt aligned with the new direction Disney has taken with the story. "There is a slight nod to jungle/safari elements (and even beautiful printed silk shorts directly inspired by Mowgli’s costume)," they continued. "Everything has been executed in a way that feels elevated and modern, which has been the collective goal of Disney and Kenzo from the very beginning of this collaboration." "The Jungle Book has always been my favourite Disney movie, because it resonated with my fear of being alone," Leon told Vogue.
