Funny Arabic t-shirts are becoming a huge trend in the Middle East. In support of local designers and companies, we've gathered 4 of Amman's stores that design funny, creative and catchy t-shirts and asked them some questions about their companies. Check below for answers & visit their facebook pages for more designs and information. - When did you launch? 2007 at Souk jara. - What was your aim in launching a t-shirt store? The bigger picture, we needed a store to hang out in, and to interact on human level with people. - How are you different from other places? We focus on finding the bridges between different Arabic pop cultures and try to show everyone that we are not that different from each other. - What do you do other than t-shirts/sweaters? Stickers, pillows, ipad sleeves, posters and a cool slang dictionary. - How many designs do you have?93 designs. - Where do you sell? Our store in Jabal Al-luwebideh, Virgin mega store, and our online store

- Price of t-shirt and sweaters? 8-10 jds t-shirt, 25 jds hoodie - What charities do you support (if any)? Jo Bedu focuses most of its responsibilities on supporting artists, encouraging them to be creative, and rewarding them for their efforts. We have also supported, Jordan River foundation, Zikra, Gaza, and Jabel Amman Residence Association. - Are your designs done by yourself or by contributors? We print the works of awesome designers, we are always scouting talent. - Anything else you want us to know? Water is not stored in the Camel’s hump. A camel’s poop is so dry you can use it immediately to start a fire. Camel’s have a reputation for spitting but they don’t, it would be a waste of water. what they are actually doing is vomiting on you.Mlabbas launched in August 2010 with a Kiosk in CityMall. We left Jordan for a few years to study and came back in 2010 and restarted under the name Mlabbas. - What was your aim in launching a tshirt store? The same reason we started back then in Jara: We noticed that virtually everyone wore clothes with foreign print on them, not only that, the majority had no idea what their shirt says!

We desperately wanted to change that and give people another way of expressing themselves. - How are you different from other places? First: we have both an in-house collection of designs and we customize to the customers wishes as well. So we've printed some really interesting things to clients all over the Arab world like Lybia, Syria, Saudi, Bahrain and Lebanon. And you can bet its political stuff! That's the second thing that differentiates us: we don't shy from politics. We've had the Mukhabarat pay us a visit over some of our designs that they didn't like. The story is on our facebook page (March 2011). We like pushing boundaries. We just started doing Stencils. Stencils are cardboard cut-outs of a design that you can spay onto a surface like walls, tiles, furniture, fabric and so on. Stencils can sometimes have more of a social or political message than t-shirts, think Banksy. We offer a stencil customization service as well as our own ready-to-spray stencils. - How many designs do you have?

Including the ones that are currently out of stock I would say around 40. - Where do you sell? City Mall, and starting in April 2012 on Rainbow Street! Across from Cups & Kilos. - Price of t-shirt and sweater? T-shirts are 10 JDs, Mini t-shirts (to hang in your car) are 5 JDs, hoodies are 25 JDs, unless we customize them with your own design then its a bit more depending on the design. - What charities do you support (if any)? Through t-shirts we’ve sponsored causes like Breast Cancer in collaboration with a local magazine, as well as for KHCF through Climb for Cancer's 2011 Everest Challenge, and for a film about Palestinian refugees called When I saw You coming out this year. - Are your designs done by yourself or by contributors? Nine of our designs have been done by 5 different contributors and we're looking for more! The rest are in-house designs. - Anything else you want us to know? Mlabbas in English are called Jordan Almonds! We have tried to figure out why they are called Jordan Almonds but without any luck, so we put out a call for people to help us find out why, and we're still waiting for an answer.

It is a fact that a Jordanian doesn't mind wearing a t-shirt that has the name of a western/foreign city or country on it, but would never wear a shirt that has the name of a Jordanian city that he's not from, even if its a neighboring town! - When did you launch? We started presenting design in the mid 2011, and we started producing products beginning of 2012 - What was your aim in launching a tshirt store? Our aim is to produce creativity to the community, to share ideas and Arabic culture. We believe that we are different from others in our quality and designs, we also have the free delivery service. We are now selling t-shirts, sweaters, posters, stickers and in the future we will be selling bags, laptop bags and mugs. - How many designs do you have? We currently have over 20 designsWe sell online and in differentt bazaars around Amman. - Price of t-shirt and sweater? t-shirt for 10 JDs and sweaters for 20 JDs - What charities do you support (if any) ?

We support “Rahaf for Development" مؤسسة رهف للتطوير : مؤسسة متخصصة برعاية ذوي الاحتياجات الخاصة PCRF : Palestine Children’s Relief Fund . We are working to support King Hussien Cancer Foundation and any other foundation that may work with us Each project and foundation has different percentage - Are your designs done by yourself or by contributors? - Anything else you want us to know? The founders of 7arakat are Amro Sinan and Mousa Al-Ali, we are looking forward to make a difference in the local market and share creativity with others. We believe that the youth and teenagers have great ideas and designs that we can turn into products. Our first design product - (The “King Hussein” memorial t-shirt) was a gift from KORTS to the King Abdullah II bin Al-Hussein in the second of February 2oo9. And that’s when we started designing and car delivering until we opened our first store located on the 3RD Circle in the summer of 2010.

June 2011 we officially launched our main branch store in Jabal Amman.T-shirt is the piece of clothing that you wear without intending to express a serious, rigid, or cliche image of yourself. It is naturally the piece of clothing that you select when you want to be yourself. This is why I guess Slogans and personalized designs started to invade T-Shirts, and this is precisely why I decided to make others T-shirts my personal Canvas. To complement that, I started lately to personalize some hats and caps in addition to scarves with designs that enhance this message.“KORTS Only For Collectors” – That is us: we produce only 60 pieces from each design, so only collectors can have one of each, we aim to maintain uniqueness, then we create new designs and so one. We not only produce t-shirts and clothing, we have other complementary items like bibs, mugs, print on canvas, car tags, scarves and much more. We get inspired from common local and great politicians sayings. We relate directly to what the collector personal reflection to his life style and view.

We are specialized in commuting the harmonization between different regions. Also we are popular for customizing, have your own design not to be shared! That is really cool. We Design for Adults and kids. Last but not least, we provide free delivery too :)Bibs, Mugs, Canvas, Wood works, Scarves, Stickers, Car Tags, Caps booth in embroidery and printing. We have designed so far 59 public designs, and endless number of customized ones. Our main branch in Jabal Amman – First Circle – Omar bin Alkhatab St. – building no.41 (100m after Booksa2cafe) Our second branch located on the Third Circle. ) , www.sallaty.jo, and the Market Place. Our “only for collectors” production line prices are 10 JDs for t-shirts, and 25 JDs for hoodies. We dedicate a flat rate from our sales to Somalia famine.
