game of thrones direwolf hoodie

In my time as a knitter, I’ve noticed that there is a big overlap between the knitting/crocheting community and fandoms. Thankfully for nerdy knitters like me, there is no end to patterns for things I just have to have, like my very own sorting hat or set of Game of Thrones dragon eggs. I’ve collected some knitting and crochet patterns here from across a few different fandoms that are worthy of some serious fangirling. Get your needles and hooks ready! Not a knitter yet? I taught myself to knit from a book and some youtube videos, so you can dive right in. These patterns will definitely make you want to get on the yarn crafts bandwagon. If you’re a nerdy knitter and have patterns to share, please post them in the comments! I’d love to see them. Mochi Mochi Critters: In Loser/Queen by Jodi Lynn Anderson, Cammy Hall loves to knit. The cover of Loser/Queen features adorable knitted critters that remind me of Mochi Mochi creatures. This website has about a zillion patterns for adorable, tiny knitted creations.

For creative knitters, these patterns can easily be adapted to look like your favorite wizard….or superhero…the possibilities are endless. Sorting Hat: Calling all felters! This is a creative and fun felted knitting pattern for our very own sorting hat. You’ll need to provide the voices in your head with your imagination. Golden Snitch: This is an easy knitting pattern for an adorable golden snitch. Adapt the “ball” part of the pattern to make yourself a quaffle and two bludgers and you are ready for a living room game of quidditch. Gates of Moria Gloves: If you are going on a quest to battle a dragon for your ancestral home and gold hoard or to destroy a certain evil piece of jewelry, you’ll need some warm gloves. This stunning knitting pattern is for mittens adorned with Tolkein’s original design for the gates of Moria. Direwolf Mittens: An intricate direwolf mitten pattern for intermediate to advanced knitters because…well…..winter is coming!

Dragon Eggs: Crochet yourself a trio of Daenerys’s dragon eggs! Note: Yarn and stuffing are not impervious to flames. 221B Baker Street Wallpaper Pillow: This knitting chart for the wallpaper of 221B Baker Street (yellow smiley face included) makes a gorgeous pillow, but you could also be creative and adapt it into a pillow or blanket! Tardis Hat: This is an intermediate crochet pattern for a Tardis hat. Perfect for your next trip to Comic Con! Dr. Who Scarf: Patterns abound for the iconic Dr. Who scarves. Try this beginner to intermediate knitting pattern to keep you cozy as you travel through time and space. Katniss Cowl: When Katniss wore that cowl-y one-armed vest in the Catching Fire movie, the knitting world went nuts! There are plentiful patterns online for the iconic piece of knitwear. I like this pattern because it uses the same herringbone type stitch as the original and the cowl is a wearable size for life outside of Panem. Avengers Hats: If you know any babies, hurry up and crochet them these tiny Thor, Hulk, Captain America, and Iron Man hats!

The pattern also includes instructions for adult sizing because obviously you’ll need a set for yourself too. Spider-Man Blanket: This round web-shaped blanket is a must for any Spiderman fan. Captain America Hoodie: For the advanced knitter, this gorgeous Captain America hoodie is just right for Comic Con.

Right now, Game of Thrones is something I’m seriously geeking out about (well besides typefaces and my new obsession – roller skate wheels). I do realise I’m a little late to this party, but I am making up for it by devouring my way through the books. I’m currently unable to put down book three, and I am beyond excited for season three of the TV show to start.

Direwolf print by Sophie Blackhall Cain Direwolf vest by Neenacreates Have you seen this? Fantastic project from New York based Graphic Designer and Illustrator, Lauren Hom – check out her work, I have severe portfolio envy. I love these prints, and how they blatantly and beautifully showcase the fibs we tell ourselves, and what better way to face up to our little white lies than to have them hand lettered, screenprinted and on display for all to see? It’s almost like being honest with ourselves… My favourite is the first one, I say that ALL the time. ‘Tattoos Don’t Hurt’ by Virgilio Tzaj ‘I Just Got Your Text’ by Emma Hopkins ‘Just Ten More Minutes’ by Courtney Blair All artwork by Lauren Hom, unless otherwise credited. One of my favourite finds of the past few years is The Lost Type Coop.
