I would love to see her in the KH series. :3 (and princess Garnet too)FF7 had the advantage of being the first in the PlayStation generation, for many gamers, it was their first experience with Final Fantasy and that alone is enough to make it a more prominent memory, FF8–9 had the difficult task of living up to that first experience. Each Final Fantasy game does something a little different, 7 had its materia, 8 had the draw/junction system which took the spotlight off of Magic by making it too precious to use. FF8 shone the spotlight on limit breaks instead, limit breaks became the most powerful attacks and more flashy than even summon spells. The draw/junction system wasn't popular with everyone for a few reasons,You could use your magic or be powerful… but it was very difficult to do both, junctioning was by far the best use of your magic and that meant using it would slightly weaken your characterDrawing was tedious and time consuming, and there was always that one character who could only draw 1–2 spells while the rest of the party was drawing 8–9A big party made

it difficult to settle in when the crew changed up, you could transfer drawn magic between characters but you didn't always have the opportunity to do so at crucial moments and you'd find yourself facing a boss with an underpowered character. Or you'd have to play through a whole flashback that way.Proper use of your summon spirits or GF’s actually made up for that though, it just wasn't until the late game that it really started paying off. On the topic of GF’s, they had a boost feature that was initially pretty cool but soon became a chore.A lot of people weren't keen on the salary system either, you didn't win money from battles anymore, you got a salary, if you didn't increase your rank though, you got paid a pittance, the only way to raise your rank however was with a simple quiz that was easy to figure out, you could attain max rank right off the bat just by answering a few questions. The narrative was too confusing for a lot of gamers, which I found a strange criticism as to me, FF8 made a lot more sense than FF7 and the plot holes were better filled in.

It was always a disappointment for me because personally, I thought FF8 was the better game, the characters were more relatable, I liked that enemies were always at a challenging level due to scaling and I loved the card game. The final boss was tough, no matter how much you levelled up and despite its shortcomings, I liked the draw/junction system especially in the late game when all that preparation started really paying off. Personally, I thought 8 had the better narrative as well.I think it's biggest issue by far was that it followed FF7 and was judged by the those standards, slammed for not carrying on with the popular features of 7 and that overshadowed the cool features that were new. These are just guesses, mind, but a couple of things jump out:1) The setting and story weren't as relatable. FF7 had big corporations and a motorcycle as prominent imagery, which people understand and buy into; it was all cyberpunk, in spite of the magic world, and those tropes had wide appeal at the time.

FF8 was centered around a para-military academy, in a world that resembled our own world to much less of an extent; it lacked the obvious tropes for people to grab onto.2) The mechanics were kind of wonky, in much the same way that FF2 had wonky mechanics.
ea7 tracksuit cheapWhere FF7 had the materia system, which was an evolution of the magicite and job systems from earlier games in the series, FF8 had the draw system, which dis-incentivized using your cool spells in favor of basic attacks.

hoodies pojkeI think because it was the first Final Fantasy released on the new PlayStation.

I was 18 years old and in my first apartment. My parents would never buy me a Nintendo. I bought a PlayStation with my own money from my own job and bought Final Fantasy 7 with my own money.
butta hoodieI knew nothing about Final Fantasy.
hoodie allen song lineupI picked it because I love Fantasy books. My 3 roommates and I played that game for over a year. I beat the emerald weapon and my PlayStation froze. My roommate got Aeris up to level 99 with her ultimate weapon. We all took turns grinding to get her level up.. just so we could all scream “NO WAY! She could totally kick his ass!” When the death scene happend. (We had heard a rumor if she was all leveled up she would live, this was pre-google). In today's world you'd say we did a 100% completion run throughs multiple times.Yes, when 8 came out, I bought it eagerly!! To go from being in a resistance group, to being a military brat in a school… was kinda like “oh my character is a young Shinra soldier”.

Instead of a huge oversized sword, we now have a gun blade. Dang it, I never liked Vincent because of the gun. I'm in freaking school. Ugh.It was like we had gone from a high fantasy to a sorta sci-fi game. Yeah, I was disappointed. It wasn't the great sweeping fun of 7. It seemed more serious, more industrial. The stupid draw system was frustrating. I didn't like it. (I've gone back and played it, and it's a fun game if you didn't just come off a year or more of playing 7).Then 9 came out and oh how fun is that game!! The Fantasy was back! (Going back it's “omg there are fights every 5 seconds, why did I love this game?”).So for this Final Fantasy fan, 8 just came at the wrong time.Cloud being a silent protagonist let you place yourself into the character. Squall was, IMO just not likable. I had similar issues with FFX's Tidus. That however is likely more personal preference than anything else. Also, they neglected to include down hill skiing against a moogle on a sled.Regardless of whether or not people enjoyed the games, I think that the advertising of it really did make a major impact for FFVII.
