The Grammy nominee and the royal are both supporters of children's charity EACH – the East Anglia's Children's Hospice. While Kate has been a royal patron of the charity since 2012, Ed acts as an ambassador. One of his recent acts of kindness involved donating a £500 cheque to the charity, a photo posted on EACH's official Facebook page showed.

Ed's shirts, hoodies, T-shirts, adidas high-tops and Beats headphones were all put on sale and raised over £7,500. Ed's camouflage hoodie which sold for £900, while other hoodies followed closely behind at £740 and £710. Kate has been a patron of the children's charity since 2012 When he first became an ambassador for the charity in 2014, Ed visited one of the hospices where he met children and took part in a music therapy session with the youngsters. During the session the Don't singer played guitar while the kids played on the keyboard and tambourines. "It was great to come to The Treehouse to see the fantastic work the charity does," said Ed. "The facilities are amazing and I can see just how important the care and support is to the children and their families. "I really enjoyed learning about what's on offer, especially music therapy, and I had great fun playing the guitar as part of the session. It was a really moving experience and I look forward to working with the charity in the future."

Sheeran then went about boosting his profile, co-writing songs for One Direction and Taylor Swift.

He toured the U.S. with Swift on her massive 2013 arena tour, and saw his song, "I See Fire," featured in the closing credits of the smash hit movie The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug. By the end of 2013, Sheeran shifted his focus from performing to recording his sophomore album, with Rick Rubin and Pharrell producing. Keeping with the mathematical theme, the album was titled X ("Multiply"). Appearing in June 2014, X encompassed his acoustic/hip-hop hybrid sound, but also had an R&B feel in places, along with straight-ahead pop. The record debuted at number one on both the U.S. and U.K. charts, reached gold or platinum status in 15 countries, and the singles for "Sing" and "Thinking Out Loud" both topped the British charts. The following year, X won British Album of the Year at the 2015 Brit Awards, with Sheeran winning British Male Solo Artist. The year was a huge success for his live performances, too: he landed an opening slot for the Rolling Stones at one of their U.S. arena concerts, and went on to completely sell out three dates at London's Wembley Stadium, which was documented for an exclusive NBC special.
