Danny Boyle at the BBC We mark the release of T2 Trainspotting by pointing a spotlight on the films director Danny Boyle made for the BBC. Based first in Northern Ireland, his work was typified by a...The juggernaut that is EastEnders will be rolling into Ireland in April for a special spin-off series starring Jessie Wallace and Shane Richie (Kat and Alfie Moon). Neither man, woman nor beast will put this mammy off her mission to find her long lost son who was stolen from her at birth. It was announced last year that the BBC would be filming a six-part drama featuring Jessie and Shane in which they will visit Ireland “in search of answers to some very big questions”. This won’t be the first time EastEnders has crossed the Irish sea. The soap filmed three episodes here in 1997 and Irish fans kicked up a ferocious stink over their stereotypical portrayal of Irish people as “dirty, rude and drunk”. Fast-forward almost two decades and Kat is on the hunt her her son.

She only found out about his existence in recent weeks when Sister Ruth (June Whitfield) turned up on her doorstep in Walford to reveal that the truth. Kat learnt that her daughter Zoe was actually a twin and that somewhere in Ireland, she has a son who is oblivious to the fact that his mum does not know of his existence. Born in 1984, the twins were the result of Kat being raped by her uncle Harry when she was just 14. Kat’s son — whom she was told was called Luke — would now be around 32 years of age and EastEnders will be looking to cast an actor in the role in coming weeks. We’ve come up with a list of Irish actors in their early 30s who we reckon would be perfectly cast in the role …. Finglas born actor Danny, who plays the role of Buster Brady in the hugely popular TV series Mrs Brown’s Boys, fits the profile perfectly. Coming in at just one year older than Kat’s would-be son, Danny is recognised for his comedic portrayal of a wise cracking, yet slightly dim wannabe wide boy Buster.

And as likenesses go, it wouldn’t take the biggest stretch of the imagination to believe Danny was related to Kat Moon.

dmt hoodies Born in September 1985, we know him best as Mondo from Fair City. McMahon turns 30 this year and compared to the others on our list, his youthfulness might just make him a more believable option as Kat’s son.

But the fair haired actor might lack the swarthy looks required for the part. Kinlan’s film debut came at age 14 when he played David in Soft Sand, Blue Sea, which tells the story of a children’s home populated not with orphans, but as children of disinterested parents. Plus Laurence is from Dublin’s gritty north inner city, not a huge leap from Kat’s home in the EastEnd. His brother Domhnall has Hollywood sewn up having starred in the likes of Harry Potter, About Time and Star Wars: The Force Awakens, but Brian (28) seems happy to stick closer to home. Currently starring in RTE drama Rebellion, and previously seen in Love/Hate, perhaps Brian might now consider cracking soapland? And let’s face it, Kat did go through a redheaded phase, so having a ginger son is not beyond the realms of possibility. Peter will forever be associated with the role of Fran our favourite maniac from Love/Hate, but he could be the perfect fit as Kat’s son. He’s already shown his ability to play a character who is more than a little rough around the edges, and having been born in 1984, he is the perfect age for the role.

Let’s just hope Alfie doesn’t suggest they bond over a game of pool at The Vic after THAT infamous attack on Fran with a snooker cue in Love/Hate. He’s already got form in soapland, having starred as Superintendent James McKay (32) in TV3 Red Rock. Plus he has proven himself worthy of a dramatic storyline and his ability to be a top secret-keeper when his character was killed off and everybody was kept in the dark. But could Richard’s polished good looks be too posh for the East End? Damo And Ivor star Andy Quirke has a solid track record when it comes to adapting to characters like a chameleon. Turning 31 this year, he is best known for taking on the twin personas of chav Damo and D4 posho Ivor in the RTE comedy series. It could be time for him to consider a more serious dramatic role and he has a slight resemblance to Jessie Wallace. Our hairdressing and beauty uniforms have taken their inspiration from the high street.
