hot topic sally hoodie I am pleased to announce the appointment of human rights lawyer, researcher and Curtin graduate, Dr Hannah McGlade, as a Senior Indigenous Research Fellow at Curtin.

Dr McGlade is the recipient of the 2011 Stanner Award for the best academic manuscript written by an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander author, for her book, Our Greatest Challenge, Aboriginal children and human rights. She is the Deputy Chairperson of the WA Deaths in Custody Watch Committee and was recently appointed a Senior Indigenous Fellow at the United Nations Office of the High Commission for Human Rights in Geneva. I am delighted to welcome Dr McGlade back to the Curtin community. Friday 8 July was National Hoodie Day. Australian Indigenous Mentoring Experience (AIME) launched National Hoodie Day in 2010 to spread the word around Australia that Indigenous equals success and it has since evolved as a powerful symbol of unity, belief and change. I was pleased to don the retro look jumper, designed to encourage reflection on the journey and achievements of AIME throughout the organisation’s 16-year history. At Curtin, AIME mentors work with local Indigenous high school students.

During Curtin’s four-year involvement with AIME, 419 students have been engaged with an incredible 95.2 per cent Year 12 attainment rate. Funds raised from the purchase of hoodies will ensure that AIME reaches its target of engaging 10,000 Indigenous high school students Australia-wide by 2018. Staff can purchase a hoodie (small or medium) on campus for $65 from the AIME office (211.138) or all sizes online. You can find out more about AIME here.Bentley campus has multiple outlets and conveniences so you can find what you need whilst you’re here. The Curtin University Bookshop is run by the Co-op.
