Boston Bruins head coach Claude Julien (C) looks on from the bench against the Columbus Blue Jackets in the second period during a preseason hockey game at Nationwide Arena. Mandatory Credit: Aaron Doster-USA TODAY SportsThe Boston Bruins had a very disappointing season last year by not making the playoffs for the second year in a row. Will they be able to turn it around this year with some help from some young talent? There were many questionable moves made like the acquisition of forward Zac Rinaldo for a third round pick in the 2017 NHL Draft. Rinaldo was a 6th round pick in the 2008 draft and only had eight goals, 24 points and 572 Penalty Minutes in the time he was traded to the the Bruins. So why would the Bruins trade a 3rd round pick for a 6th, I think it was because they thought that the player would be able to bring some of the grit back that the team lost with the loss of Shawn Thornton. But luckily for us Bruins fans they have released Rinaldo to Waivers. The Bruins also recently re-signed top 6 forward Brad Marchand to and eight year $49 million dollar contract (Average annual value of 6.125 million) beginning with the 2017-18 season.

This is a good/bad signing for the Bruins yes I like that they are keeping Marchy but that means he is here until he is 35, I understand that he came off a career high season and that is a good time to negotiate a contract but I think it is a little to long cause we all know what happened with Marc Savard.More from Chowder and ChampionsBoston Bruins: Cassidy Tinkering With Lines Against SharksBoston Bruins: Claude Julien Finally Fired, Bruce Cassidy Named InterimBoston Bruins: Brad Marchand Seems to be Only One MotivatedThe Boston Bruins Should Fire Cam Neely And Claude Julien Now!Boston Bruins Prospect JFK Is Making A Name For HimselfNow to this upcoming season, I believe that the Bruins have a very good chance to make the playoffs with all of the offensive talent the team has, especially with Patrice Bergeron and Brad Marchand coming off of career years: but what worries me is their defense. Yes, they have a solid defense but what they do not have is a top 2/4 shutdown d-man.Some may argue that Zdeno Chara is still a top 4 D but that is only if he does play to many minutes in the regular season, which means that he belongs nowhere near the powerplay.

Chara is a very effective d-man in his own zone which makes him a great guy to have on the penalty kill.

i am trayvon martin hoodies for saleI do not know why Claude Julien puts Chara on the powerplay, the guy does not move that well, if the Bruins need a heavy shot on the point then put David Backes and if you need a big body in front, well then isn’t that what the Bruins acquired Jimmy Hayes for?

These lines are subject to change due to injuries the Bruins currently have as well as other roster transactions.*Adam McQuaid and Kevin Miller are currently injured, as well as**Austin Czarnik, who was wearing a red shirt at practice which means no contact.

When all was said and done, the Black and Gold racked up a four-hour bar tab that according to Shrine totaled $156,679.74, and included the now-famous $100,000.00 bottle of Ace of Spades “Midas” champagne, which was a gift according to Bruins players Shawn Thornton and Zdeno Chara. The tab also lists a built-in tip of $24,869.80 for Danielle (the server whose name is on top of the tab below), which we imagine she had to split up with a few other servers at Shrine. Thornton, speaking on sports radio 98.5 The Sports Hub’s Felger and Massarotti show, said someone was kind enough to pay the $100K for the Ace of Spades bottle, and that Shrine owners Ed Kane, Joe Kane, and Randy Greenstein were also very generous and helped out with the tab.

“If the people want to take credit for who took care of it [the bar tab], they can, but that wasn’t all us,” Thornton said on Felger and Mazz. “The champagne was a gift from somebody, so that’s out the window before it even starts, it was a very generous gift and it wasn’t necessary but it was very nice of them and then obviously the people at Shrine, Ed Kane and Randy, they helped us a lot with the bill, too, and Foxwoods really took care of us, setting up the rooms and all that stuff “There’s no doubt about it. We partied like we won the Stanley Cup but it wasn’t like Mr. [Zdeno] Chara and his $7.6 million just pulled out the black card and said ‘Here, it’s on me,’ so it wasn’t as bad as it sounds.” Chara was asked about the tab while attending the NHL awards in Las Vegas. “We are very disappointed at something like this,” Chara said Tuesday. “I’m not sure how it got out. That was our first and only night we had as a team together.

We went out to Foxwoods to have a normal good time, nothing crazy… “That number that is posted up is nowhere near what the actual price of the bill was … We had been given as a gift the bottle of champagne from Foxwoods and we knew after we finished it we would sign it and Foxwoods would auction it off.” The 30-liter “Midas” bottle, which is one of six in existence, was double the size of the 15-liter Ace of Spades brut that Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban purchased for his team after its NBA championship just over a week ago. Some other highlights on the Bruins tab according to Shrine included 35 Jager Bombs totaling $525, 3 bottles of Captain Morgan at $300 each, 9 bottles of Goose MG at $600 a pop, 136 Bud Lights… and in case anyone was dehydrated, 67 bottles of Fiji water totaling $268. Thornton didn’t think the 136 bottles of Bud Light was a lot of beer for the occasion. “That’s not that many though, I thought that was kind of low,” Thornton said.

“We had 30 guys down there with us, that’s like four beers a guy, that’s nothing… hey, we won the Stanley Cup, if you’re ever going to do it, all I hear about is how hard the guys from ’72 went, we had to live up to those expectations.” The Globe’s Names column filed this report on the Bruins Foxwoods festivities: “Before anyone could sample the champagne, it had to be opened — and that proved difficult. Zdeno Chara tried, but the 6-foot-9 defenseman couldn’t do it. Finally, after a few failed attempts, the cork was removed, and the champagne was poured into the Stanley Cup. Their thirst still not quenched, Chara, Shawn Thornton, and the rest of the Bruins then lifted the Cup to their mouths. “Chara, wearing jeans and an Ed Hardy T-shirt, can actually dance, but no one kicked it like Brad Marchand (and rookie Tyler Seguin,) who spent much of the night on top of the bar, shirtless, and spritzing the crowd with champagne. They were occasionally joined by teammates, some of whom seemed to be using these postseason parties to perfect their Dougie, the dance made famous by Lil’ Wil.
