The Head Of The Charles® Regatta, now entering its 52nd year, invites friends and family of the rowing community to join us at the Rowing and Fitness Expo. The Expo, located in the midst of the Finish Area Launch Site (FALS) offers vendors access to athletes, coaches and spectators at the world’s largest rowing event. Located at Christian Herter Park in Allston, MA the Expo includes fifty vendor booths and boat builder tents. The Expo offers a shopping experience for all visitors, not just rowers. In addition to the top rowing apparel and boat manufacturers, companies such as Brooks Brothers and New Balance all have products on display and for sale. Brooks Brothers will be offering a wide selection of polos, rugby’s, button down shirts, jackets, etc… from their massive on-site store beside Attager Row.

Athletes should come prepared to row on the water - we row in the rain! They should also come with sneakers in case wind conditions require that we keep rowers on land.Is the water on the Mystic River safe? The river grading system has changed and the water we row on has been rated safe for boating 95% of the time! The Mystic River Watershed monitors the water and tests it regularly. GGRC is notified if there are any risks present. GGRC also has a safety procedure in place should the water dip below safety standards. Gentle Giant Juniors Rowing has been going strong since 2003. Each spring and fall season, high school students from GGRC’s partner cities Somerville, Everett and Malden (in the fall), as well as many other cities and towns from the Mystic River Watershed, join together to compete as the GGRC Junior Giants. Races include the Textile River Regatta, the New Hampshire Championships, and the Head of the Charles to name a few. All high school age youth are welcome, and applications are available.

Somerville High School & Everett High School Crew – Somerville High School has been a partner of the Gentle Giant Rowing Club every spring season since 2003 and Everett High School’s Crimson Tide join the Highlanders of Somerville for their inaugural season in the Spring of 2014. The "High Tide" Crew has enjoyed annual growth and success at the novice level. This joint High School team rows out of the Blessing of the Bay Boathouse competing in the Massachusetts Public School Rowing Association. GGRC provides the rowing equipment and management, and the school department funds coaching stipends and the travel budget for the team.Malden High School Crew has been a partner of the Gentle Giant Rowing Club every spring season since 2005. The Golden Tornados from Bloomberg Business Week Magazine’s 2009 “Best Place to Raise Your Kids” row from the Malden Rowing Center at 356 Commercial Street in Malden. They compete in the Massachusetts Public School Rowing Association. As of 2015, Malden High School is an independent program.
