Our highest priority project is funding clinical trials of 3,4-methylenedioxymethamphetamine (MDMA) as a tool to assist psychotherapy for the treatment of posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD). We are also sponsoring ongoing clinical trials of MDMA-assisted psychotherapy for anxiety associated with life-threatening illness, and MDMA-assisted therapy for social anxiety in autistic adults. Preliminary studies have shown that MDMA in conjunction with psychotherapy can help people overcome PTSD, and possibly other disorders as well. Psychedelic Science 2017 is a six-day global gathering featuring three days of conference programming, full-day workshops, a sunset cruise on the San Francisco Bay, a comedy banquet, a free marketplace of goods and ideas, and much more.

MAPS has recently completed the first double-blind, placebo-controlled study of the therapeutic use of LSD in human beings since the early 1970s. MAPS is interested in LSD for its potential to help people with a variety of conditions, focusing primarily on the treatment of anxiety associated with life-threatening illness. Our recently completed Phase 2 pilot study in 12 subjects found positive trends in the reduction of anxiety following two LSD-assisted psychotherapy sessions. The study results also indicate that LSD-assisted psychotherapy can be safely administered in these subjects, and justify further research.

Although first-hand accounts indicate that ibogaine is unlikely to be popular as a recreational drug, ibogaine remains classified as a Schedule I drug in the United States (it is also scheduled in Belgium and Switzerland). Yet despite its classification as a drug with a "high potential for abuse" and "no currently accepted medical use," people who struggle with substance abuse continue to seek out international clinics or underground providers to receive ibogaine treatment. We recently completed the first North American observational study of the safety and long-term effectiveness of ayahuasca treatment for addiction and dependence. The paper describing the results of the study was published in June 2013 in Current Drug Abuse Reviews. MAPS has been working since 1992 to sponsor FDA-approved clinical studies into the safety and efficacy of botanical marijuana as a prescription medicine for specific medical uses. We've obtained approval from FDA and from Institutional Review Boards for several different protocols but were unable to obtain approval to purchase federally-legal marijuana from the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA).
ensiferum hoodies On March 14, 2014, the U.S. Public Health Service approved our request to purchase NIDA marijuana for our study of smoked whole plant (botanical) marijuana for symptoms of PTSD in U.S. veterans, an historic shift in federal policy.

On December 17, 2014, MAPS was awarded a $2.15 million grant from the state of Colorado to conduct the study. The study has received full approval from the FDA, DEA, and Institutional Review Boards (IRBs). By 1991 I had been shooting for Rolling Stone Magazine regularly for over 3 years. Relix Magaz...ine was using my photography, I had shot my first Guitar Player Magazine cover in 1990 (Michael Hedges), and had shot numerous covers for BAM Magazine. Right after New Years Blair Jackson called me to ask if I wanted to do a portrait of Jerry Garcia and Robert Hunter TOGETHER for his Grateful Dead Fanzine "The Golden Road"! T

hey were sitting down for an interview with Blair and they had never been photographed/interviewed together in this way. I was FREAKING OUT!. The date and time was set. I went to the Grateful Dead office in San Rafael and was put in a tiny office and told to set up and wait. Blair was doing his interview in the next room over. The room was so small I could only set up one light, and had to kneel on a desk to get 3 feet away from my subjects. I had my Hasselblad all loaded up with film, and 2 Nikons as well...One with Color Film, One with B&W Film. In my fantasies I was envisioning a casual hang, some small talk and than I would shoot for 10-20 minutes. Some duo shots, some individuals, color/B&W...a typical shoot with an artist that is "fast" but not insane! When Garcia and Hunter finally walked in, I was told I had five minutes. I shot about 10 pictures with my 35 MM camera when I was told, that's it - wrap it up! You need to be done! I freaked and said NO!! I shot 2.5 rolls of film, in the next 2 minutes, nothing with the Hasselblad as it is a much slower camera to work with (manual film advance). 2
